I saw an interesting note today on Marcel Callo, from France during wartime occupation by the Nazis. At age 22 he was ordered into a forced labour camp. A year later, the report says, he was arrested by the Nazis for being “too Catholic” and was eventually sent to the Mathausen concentration camp in Austria. He died five months after arrival of malnutrition and tuberculosis.
We can certainly be grateful that in Canada today punishments for non-conforming beliefs, religious or otherwise, have not yet progressed beyond fines, suspensions, and exclusion from some professions and political Parties!
If we fail to object to those punishments, though, will authoritarians progress to harsher measures?
